Great Horned Owl
This is the momma of the babies shown below. I often see her in the desert, and sometimes on my roof! Keep your kitties an Chihuahuas indoors!
-
Owl Baby
A Saguaro right outside the local post office made a nice, albiet high profile nesting place for a family of Great Horned Owls. This "baby" is about the size of a small house cat!
-
Owl Babies
Not too long after shooting this photo, these critters flew the coop!
-
Tough Feet!
Momma had a great vantage point atop this 25 foot Saguaro, but I'm not sure how comfortable she was.
-
The Birds
These blackbirds on steriods kind of freaked me out as I hike the arroyo behind my house. I watch too many Hitchcock movies!
-
Sunset
Another beautiful Anthem sunset!
-
Swollen River
Most rivers around here are bone dry for much of the year, but when we get a good rain, they come to life!
-
-
Joshua Tree
The vegetation springs to life after a good downpour.
-
Snow Caps
It's snowed twice in the 10 years I've lived in Anthem, but most winters we get mountain views like this. All the beauty, but nothing to shovel!
-
Buster in the Rain
Buster is my constant companion on desert hikes. He likes the rain!
-
Monsoon a Blowin'
Monsoon season is kind of a mixed blessing. While it tends to be the hottest and muggiest time of the year (muggy is relative-I'm talking 30% humidity!), we love the rain and the amazing storms that come rolling in!
-
Skipping Stones
Like my dog Buster, my son Daniel also loves a good rain storm and the "instant" lakes they bring with them!
-
Gavilan Peak
Yes, you can hike it! The trail head is either walking distance, or a short drive from any home in Anthem!
-
Another Gorgeous Sunset
Need I say more?
-
Sunrise in Anthem
When your day starts out like this, it's bound to be a winner!

A Couple of Asses
Wild Burros roam the washes and arroyos around Anthem. As the story goes, they were brought here by miners and let loose when the stakes got lean. I've seen herds as large as a dozen, but they usually won't let you get this close, before they scatter.
-
Autumn Sunset
A great way to end the day!

Cooper's Hawk
One of many types of birds of prey that make Anthem home, this guy feasts on anything from field mice to lizards!
